Scotland Men’s Squad Named For EuroHockey Championship Qualifiers in Rome

The Scotland’s men’s squad has been selected for the EuroHockey Championship Qualifiers taking place in Rome, Italy, from the 9th – 12th July. The tournament represents Scotland’s biggest objective of the year, with qualification for the 2027 European Championships firmly in their sights.

The squad travels to Rome full of confidence following a promising first-ever appearance at the FIH Nations Cup 1 in Cape Town, South Africa. Scotland finished sixth in a highly competitive field, recording memorable performances against higher ranking nations. The tournament provided valuable experience against a range of international playing styles and gave the squad an opportunity to further develop their own identity as a team.

Scotland Head Coach, Neil Allan, believes the Nations Cup campaign was the ideal preparation for the challenge awaiting his side in Rome, allowing players and coaching staff to gain important experience against tough opposition.

The Blue Sticks will begin their campaign against Turkey on Thursday 9th July at 11:15am (BST), with their remaining two fixtures to be confirmed following the completion of the opening day’s matches.

On the squad selection, Allan said, “We are delighted to name a full-strength squad for the Euro Qualifiers, with qualification for the 2027 European Championships on the line.

Reflecting on the team’s recent Nations Cup campaign, he added, “Following a successful first ever Nations Cup 1 campaign in Cape Town where we finished sixth, above our world ranking and beating a top 10 side in the world for the second successive tournament, we have learned a lot as a squad and a coaching staff.

Looking ahead to a potential debut, Allan said, “This is the first tournament selection for Tommy Orr, and he will win his first cap at the Euro Qualifiers. We are very excited to see if he can continue his domestic form on the international stage.

On the returning players, Allan concluded, “We welcome Olympian Lee Morton back to the squad for the Euro Qualifiers, alongside Callum Mackenzie and Jamie Green, both returning from injuries that ruled them out of selection for the Nations Cup. We are looking forward to getting started following a strong preparation phase of training and competition.”
