Scotland men to play for bronze in Lousada
Scotland men will play for the bronze medal at EuroHockey Championship II in Lousada after losing 3-1 to Ireland.
Ireland started the game on the offensive and it led them to an early goal. A penalty corner routine saw Lee Cole drag flick into the net for 1-0.
Ireland looked the more dangerous as the quarter progressed although chances were few and far between for both sides.
In the second quarter Scotland took a grip of the game, and pressed well high up the pitch. One penalty corner effort came to nothing but the Blue Sticks were asking questions.
After the half time break the game went from end-to-end, but it would be Ireland who struck next. A penalty corner rebound was fired into the bottom left corner by Louis Rowe for 2-0.
Rowe struck again a short time later when he pounced on a loose ball in the Scottish circle and swept home for 3-0.
Scotland came back fighting in the final quarter and it was the captain Rob Field who led the charge with a shot on the turn into the roof of the net for 3-1.
Despite a late effort from both sides there would be no further goals and it was Ireland who claimed promotion and a spot in the final.
