Scotland Men put 3 past Chile in their first game in the Saltire Series

The Men played their first game of the Saltire Series today, the first game of three against Chile.

The stands filled up with support to see the team play at home.

 

The game started with a quickly earned penalty corner by Jamie Golden, won by good build up play from Lee Morton. From here possession remained fairly even as both sides pushed to take the lead. The only difference so far is Scotland’s main attacking threat Jamie Golden and his excellent streak of successful penalty corners. The game remained at 1-0 into half time.

 

Scotland looked more comfortable on the field after half time, moving the ball with conviction and feeling relaxed despite Chile having majority of possession. The blue sticks managed to earn more time with the ball, but not without trouble from the Chile pressure. Tommy Orr delivered the momentum that the squad needed by building play down the left, and putting the ball into the circle for a scoring opportunity, smartly saved by the Chillean goalkeeper, but only cleared to the top of the circle where Andrew McAllister scored a first time reverse strike from the mistake.  Alistair Douglas had an incredible attack in the final 10 minutes and scored a field goal to see Scotland comfortably beat Chile 3-0.

 

Neil Allan, Head Coach, said “A good start to the series from the squad. We defended well for the majority of the game and limited them to a few chances at the circle. We created some great chances and the score reflects that. Hopefully we will carry this on through the week”.

 

The men go again tomorrow against Chile at 12:30 at Peffermill. Come and join the supporters in the stands and watch the Women play at 15:00 in the first double header match in two years!
