Scotland held to a draw by Canada at Women’s Junior World Cup
Scotland 1-1 Canada
A dominant Scotland performance against Canada ended in a draw at Women’s Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile.
Scotland came out fast again and very nearly took the lead in the opening minutes. Marianna Maclean found the net but a back stick in the build-up saw the goal chopped off. A phenomenal strike nonetheless by Maclean caught the eye.
The Scots played with excellent energy and pressure with Maclean causing all sorts of problems with pace and direct attacking.
A goal would come soon enough and Mhairi Low scored Scotland’s first goal at Women’s Junior World Cup with a superb run from the right and finish into the top right corner. 1-0
Scotland continued to dominate the match but it was after half time where they were met by a sucker punch. Canada equalised at the start of the third quarter after an attack down the left was converted by Zoe Furber

The domination of possession picked up in the final quarter. Ava Wadsworth was denied early in the quarter after she weaved into the Canadian circle and smashed goal-ward, but it was well saved under the bar.
Yang in goal for Canada produced a string of excellent saves, the most critical coming in the last minute when Cat Nelli had a one-v-one with the keeper, who forced the forward wide and blocked.
In the end the points were shared and Scotland sit third in the pool on goal difference.
Captain Connie Roxburgh, said, “Canada made it difficult, but we’re proud of the performance. We built on first game, and need to work on being more clinical, but we have so much positive play to take into the rest of the tournament. We’re frustrated to not win but there’s lots to build on.”
