Scotland entertain Ireland at Auchenhowie
Scotland Women will continue their preparations for the
forthcoming FIH Champions Challenge I competition with three
international matches against Ireland at Auchenhowie, Glasgow this
weekend. The matches will take place from 7-9
September.
Scotland Women Head Coach Gordon Shepherd has selected a
larger squad containing 23 players as he seeks to use the three
matches to determine his strongest squad before the Scots fly out
to Dublin for the FIH competition:
“The series against Ireland will go a long way to determining
my squad for the Champions Challenge at the end of this month”,
said Shepherd.
Two significant landmarks will be recognised before the third
match takes place on Sunday 9 September; Scotland Captain Linda
Clement will be presented with a momento to mark her becoming
Scotland Women’s most capped international during the recent FIH
World League I competition. Moreover, Grove Menzieshill’s Ailsa
Wyllie will also become the sixth member of the current squad to
amass 100 caps for her country
Clement now sits on 186 caps for her country, breaking the
cap record previously held by former Great Britain and Scotland
player Rhona Simpson.
Robert Heatly, Chief Executive, Scottish Hockey
said:
“Linda’s achievement cannot be understated and she is a
fantastic role model for our younger female players in Scotland.
She is now the country’s cap record holder, surpassing Rhona
Simpson, and has also captained Scotland on over 100 occasions. I
would like to warmly congratulate her on behalf of Scottish
Hockey.”
“Ailsa Wyllie will also become a member of an exclusive club
during the Ireland series, recording her 100th
appearance for Scotland and I would like to congratulate
Ailsa on a wonderful achievement.”
