Scotland Emerging squads finish England series with 8-Nations on the horizon
Scotland Emerging Girls 2-4 England U16
Scotland Emerging Girls’ were defeated 4-2 by England U16s in a close competitive contest. It was the second of two matches in Uddingston following a 4-2 defeat yesterday.
The first chance of the match went to Scotland after a good attack down the right found Charlotte Barr deflecting the ball at the near post, but it went narrowly wide.
Despite Scotland’s strong start it was an England counter attack that brought the opening goal. 1-0.
As the quarter neared a conclusion a tremendous double save by Morven Begs denied England a second goal.
England’s second goal wouldn’t be denied for a long and a penalty corner deflection found its way into the net for 2-0.
In the second quarter, Scotland struck back. A penalty corner was scrambled home from close range, with Jess Garden seemingly getting the final touch. 2-1.
Early in the second half Scotland scored a deserved equaliser. A swift attack down the right saw the ball played to Charlotte Robertson to slide in on goal, and make it 2-2.
England got themselves back in front late in the third quarter when the ball found the net on the third attempt after two excellent saves. 3-2.
A penalty stroke was awarded to England late in the game but a fantastic save by Verity Shields kept the ball out.
England was awarded another stroke shortly after and this time it was well dispatched into the bottom left corner for 4-2.
Scotland Emerging boys 1-2 England U16
Scotland Emerging Boys lost 2-1 to England U1s6 at Uddingston in a close action-packed contest. It followed England’s 6-0 win the previous match as Scotland builds towards the 8-Nations in Spain.
It was a tight opening to the contest with the teams going toe-to-toe and cancelling each other out.
Some good pressing by Max Strachan saw Scotland win the ball high up the pitch a number of times, but the home side was unable to take advantage.
Strachan almost opened the scoring when he pounced on a defensive lapse, but the goalkeeper managed to deal with the danger under serious pressure.
Early in the second quarter Scotland came close again when Andrew McGrane had a drag flick saved at the top right corner.
Inside the first minute of the second half England took the lead. A swift counter attack saw the ball flicked into the bottom left corner with just the keeper to beat, 1-0.
The visitors had increased their tempo and put the Scots under pressure. They were rewarded with a second goal after a near post deflection spun past the keeper and in. 2-0.
Scotland battled hard until the end and were rewarded by a late goal. Persistence down the right saw the ball played in for Strachan who picked out the bottom left corner for 2-1.
