Scotland complete double Swiss roll
UNDER 18 YOUTH CELTIC CUP
SCOTLAND 4 SWITZERLAND 2
(MEN)
The Scots moved in front in the first minute, Jamie Wong of
Gordonians moved up the right, he released the ball to Lee Morton
who fired the ball to the back post and in the resulting scramble
VWS Dundee Wanderers` Fergus Sandison stuck the ball in the
net. Glynhill Kelburne`s Ed Greaves was the creator of
the second goal, he sent the ball to the back post and Sandison
again was hand to put the Scots youngsters two ahead.
However, as a result of confusion in defence, the Scots allowed the
Swiss to pull one back for a 2-1 scoreline at the interval.
The third goal in the opening minute of the second half was a
team effort, Aidan Docherty sent the ball on to Wong, he drove into
the circle and released it to Murdo Elwis who found the net with a
reverse stick strike. A steal from the Swiss allowed
Sandison to drive into the circle, he flipped the ball left to Ed
Greaves who calmly drove the ball into the bottom left of the net
for a 4-1 score. The Swiss pulled one back not long
after, but it proved little more than a consolation.
SCOTLAND 8 SWITZERLAND 0
(WOMEN)
The Scots youngsters were ahead in just four minutes, Amber
McNeill found herself on a one to one with the goalkeeper, the ball
was saved and it fell to Laura Page, her shot came off the post and
was picked up by Jenny Eadie who finally put the ball into the net
for the opener.
The second half was an avalanche, Inverleith`s Sarah Jamieson
scored from the spot and within two minutes McNeill fired in
a reverse stick shot which deceived the goalkeeper for the
third. The goals then flowed in a sequence, Emily
Watson scored from open play and then a long ball found Lucy
Preston who swept the ball home for the fifth. Further
goals followed, Maisie Morris, Clare Laverty from a direct strike
at a penalty corner, and Preston again completed the scoring
against an outplayed Swiss.
