Round-Up: Women’s National Indoor Leagues
The Women’s National Indoor League programme continued this week with significant results across all three divisions.
National Indoor League Division 1
Dundee Wanderers are odds on favourites to seal the Division 1 title next weekend after their closest rivals Grove Menzieshill were held to a 1-1 draw by third place CALA Edinburgh in this afternoon’s indoor session at Bell’s Sports Centre.
Wanderers are now five points clear of their city rivals and stretched their 100% win record to eleven matches this season following an emphatic 13-1 success against Inverleith and a 4-2 victory over Milne Craig Clydesdale Western. Grove Menzieshill defeated Reid Kerr College Kelburne 8-2 in their second match.
CALA Edinburgh drew 4-4 with Western Wildcats to consolidate their place in third spot, four points ahead of Milne Craig Clydesdale Western, who won their second match against Granite City Wanderers (4-0).The Wildcats are assured of safety after defeating Reid Kerr College Kelburne (4-2) and Granite City Wanderers (4-2).
At the bottom, it’s a three way fight to avoid the drop. Inverleith Ladies move out of the relegation zone following a 5-3 win over relegation rivals Granite City Wanderers. However, they stay in the mix after losing the final match of the session to fellow strugglers Reid Kerr College Kelburne (7-4).
National Indoor League Central Division
In the Central Division, the schedule was reshuffled following the absence of Reid Kerr College Kelburne II.
At the top of the table, Waverley Inveresk Trinity are closing in on the title after wins over Grange EL (9-2) and Milne Craig Clydesdale Western II (5-3).
Hillhead did their promotion chances no harm with 2-1 and 3-2 wins over the same opponents and a 2-2 draw with the league leaders. Milne Craig Clydesdale Western II stay in second courtesy of a 5-2 win over Grange EL.
National Indoor League Midland & North Division
Grove Menzieshill A look likely to claim the Midland & North Division title after beating Bon Accord MBC (3-2), Perthshire (10-2) and Stirling Wanderers (2-0) in today’s fixtures. The Dundonians only need a point in next weekend’s final session of the season to collect the top prize.
However, the race for promotion and the play-offs remains very much alive. Perthshire looked to be in command following a comprehensive win over Stirling Wanderers in their first encounter.
However, Perthshire’s loss to Grove Menzieshill A and a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Dundee Wanderers II keeps the hopes alive for Stirling Wanderers, who drew with Bon Accord MBC (3-3) and also lost to the league leaders, and Dundee Wanderers II who beat Bon Accord MBC (5-4) in their other match.
