Round up – Scotland Aspiring and Emerging squads 4Nations Day 2

Scotland Emerging Girls 0-4 The Netherlands

Scotland Emerging Girls put in a good performance against a top Dutch side, losing 4-0 in Belgium.

It was a fortunate goal that gave The Netherlands the lead as the ball found its way in the net at a penalty corner.

An open play goal made it 2-0 before two penalty corners in the final quarter gave the Dutch a 4-0 victory.

Scotland had chances; Charlotte Robertson was denied by a good save from a backhand while on the ground.

Lucy Harris and Ella Mundell performed well as the whole team put in a great shift from the first minute to the last, and the Scots pushed the Dutch hard for the full match.

Germany 3-0 Scotland Aspiring Boys

Scotland Aspiring Boys fell short in a 3-0 defeat in an excellent contest against Germany.

The Scots put in an improved performance and take lots of positives from the match.

Germany were 3-0 up at half time but it could have been a different story. Jack Adams had an effort cleared off the line in the first quarter.

Sam Hunt cracked the crossbar with a penalty corner in the second half before the Scots had another effort cleared off the line.

Two ten minute yellow cards in the final quarter quelled the prospect of a late surge and Germany took a good 3-0 win in Belgium.

Germany 4-1 Scotland Aspiring Girls

Scotland Aspiring Girl’s faced a demanding Germany team losing 4-1 in the second game of their Four Nations experience.

Germany was clinical in the first quarter securing two goals against the Scots.

Scotland bounced back in quarter two regaining control of the game. After a restart, Scotland pressed high and Kirsten Murison attacked, passing the ball to Kiera Foster, who swung it past Germany’s goalkeeper to bring the score to 2-1.

Quarter three saw both teams on the attack but neither finding the net.

In the last quarter, Scotland caused Germany problems in defence but unfortunately Germany capitalised on their counter attacks scoring a further two goals. Scotland defended hard in the last ten minutes, but the game ended 4-1 to Germany.

Head Coach Keith Smith said “Despite the score, the team improved their performance from game one. We caused Germany many problems and could have scored more. We chased the game well other than a few minutes in first and fourth quarter where we conceded.”

Scotland Emerging Boys 0-8 The Netherlands

After the performance against England it would be easy for Scotland to shy away from today’s challenge but they came out of the blocks brilliantly. Their zone caused the Dutch serious issues and the Scots should have taken the lead but spawned multiple chances. They were punished late on in the quarter when the Dutch punished a mistake and scored with their first shot of the match.

The second quarter saw the Dutch ruthlessness at its finest and every mistake the Scots made was punished with a goal. The teams went in at the half with the Scots five down.

The third quarter saw a very even contest with the scots winning multiple corners and creating open play chances but they couldn’t break down the resolute Dutch defence. A break away near the end of the quarter saw the Dutch take a 6-0 lead.

The last quarter was arguably Scotland’s best quarter and for the first 10 minutes they controlled large portions of the match but once again were unable to break down the Dutch. As the game neared the end the huge corner threat of the Dutch took over giving them 2 more goals to finish the contest 8-0.

Coach Alan Wall said “Although the score may tell one story it is not the reality of what happened on the pitch. Our performance today was a huge improvement and gives us a great building block for the Spain match. We will look at our 1v1 circle defence and about having a bit more belief in the opposition 25 but I’m very pleased with the development from match 1”
