Round up – Scotland Aspiring and Emerging squads 4Nations day 1
England 3-1 Scotland Emerging Girls
The match between England and Scotland Emerging Girls ended 3-1 with a late onslaught of goals after a good Scotland performance.
It was a very positive performance by Scotland, who got off to a good start. The Scots had the ball in the back of the net in the opening quarter but it unfortunately hit a Scottish foot in the build-up and ruled out.
The first half performance was a real statement by Scotland who showed an intelligent and patient performance.
As the game neared its finale the goals began to rain in. England went into a 2-0 lead with a goal from open play and from the third phase at a penalty corner.
Scotland pulled one back through Charlotte Barr. The Scots double-teamed the England defence in the corner, took the ball and played it into the middle of the circle. A lovely feint sent the keeper the wrong way and the ball was dispatched into the net for 2-1.
Right at the end of the match England went 3-1 up through an absolute screamer of a goal, but it was an exciting performance with many positive signs for the future.
England 10-0 Scotland Emerging Boys
The first game of the 4 nations saw the emerging boys face a strong England side. The intensity and pace of the game was very high and mistakes were punished clinically. A tough first half saw England go in 4-0 up but with Scotland showing some nice phases of play.
The third quarter saw Scotland’s confidence build and chances were created at both ends. Some impressive goalkeeping by both sides saw the quarter finish goalless though.
The 4th quarter saw England ramp up the pressure and their clinical finishing paired with tiring Scottish legs saw the game get away from Scotland quickly with the final score being 10-0 to England.
Coach Alan Wall said “ The step up when you play the top International teams is steep learning curve and the boys showed at times they are capable playing brave hockey in that environment. The challenge now is to maintain that standard for longer periods”
Belgium 3-1 Scotland Aspiring Girls
Two goals in the final quarter gave Belgium a 3-1 win over Scotland Aspiring Girls in a very competitive contest.
Belgium got off to a good start and scored in the first five minutes of the contest, but Scotland came firing back and was rewarded with an equaliser in the second quarter.
Lexie Macmillan and Mhairi Low combined well with Macmillan showing some great 3D skills before firing a pass towards the far post, but it came off a Belgian defender and into the net for 1-1.
The Scots looked very comfortable against a very good side but as fatigue set in late in the contest the Belgians took advantage.
Two late goals gave Belgium a 3-1 victory but with some good signs to build on for the Scots.
Scotland Aspiring Boys 0-7 Belgium
Scotland Aspiring Boys came up against a clinical Belgium side losing 7-0 in their first 4-Nations encounter.
The Scots started the game well and carved out a chance for Murray Griffiths after some good build-up, but the effort went just wide.
The opening quarter ended goalless but in the second quarter Belgium punished Scottish mistakes by surging into a 4-0 lead.
Belgium added a fifth in the third quarter before scoring two more in the final quarter.
Scotland won a corner in the final quarter and Ollie Wilson was denied by a good save, resulting in a 7-0 score line, and a good learning experience.
