Round Up: Men’s National Indoor Leagues
It was a full fixture schedule across the Men’s National Indoor League today, with all five divisions in action.
National Indoor League Division 1
Two wins for Inverleith over Glynhill Hotel Kelburne (7-4) and Dundee Wanderers (6-5) maintained the Edinburgh side’s slender one point advantage over title rivals Grove Menzieshill at the top of Division 1.
The Taysiders recorded comfortable wins over Harris Academy FP (11-1) and Grange (7-2) to take the chase for the league championship into the last weekend, when a likely title decider between the two pacesetters is scheduled for the last match of next Saturday’s session at Bell’s Sports Centre.
Elsewhere, Grange slipped a place down to fourth in the table following their defeat to Grove Menzieshill but recorded a win over Western Wildcats (5-2). Glynhill Hotel Kelburne moved up a place with wins over PSL Team Sport Clydesdale (6-4) and Harris Academy FP (9-2).
At the bottom, Harris Academy FP are relegated to Division 2 next season despite recording their first win of the season over Western Wildcats (7-6).
It looks likely that PSL Team Sport Clydesdale will join them in Division 2 next season after the Wildcats took a giant step towards safety following a crucial 8-5 win over their Glasgow rivals in the last match of the session.
National Indoor League Division 2
In Division 2, Inverleith II moved two places up from the bottom of the table with an important win over Stepps (5-2), although they also lost to AAM Gordonians (7-5).
Relegation rivals CALA Edinburgh drew with Alpha Data Carnegie (2-2) and Falkirk GHG (3-3), while Carnegie are also beginning to feel the pressure of the drop following a 6-3 loss to Grove Menzieshill II.
At the top, it’s as you were; leaders Hillhead disposed of Stepps (6-4) and AAM Gordonians (8-3), while Grove Menzieshill II won their second match against Falkirk GHG (7-4).
National Indoor League Division 3
Watsonians have opened up a five point gap at the top of Division 3 following a comprehensive 11-3 win over promotion rivals FMGM Monarchs and bottom side Dundee Wanderers II (17-2). Monarchs slipped to third after a 5-5 draw with Quasar.
McWhinney Uddingston moved into second place with victories over Granite City Wanderers (11-3) and Glynhill Hotel Kelburne II (7-6), although lost to Quasar (4-5).
Olympic Garscadden eased their relegation worries with an important win over Dundee Wanderers II (9-7), while Granite City Wanderers lost their second match of the day to Glynhill Hotel Kelburne II (6-5).
National Indoor League Central Division
In the Central Division, the top three won all their matches today with league leaders Edinburgh University five points clear of Glasgow University with one more game played.
The Edinburgh students recorded emphatic successes over East Kilbride (12-2), Grange II (12-5) and Alpha Data Carnegie II (9-0). Glasgow University beat Grange II (8-2) and East Kilbride (7-3), while third place PSL Team Sport Clydesdale II defeated Alpha Data Carnegie (8-2) and Waverley Inveresk Trinity (9-5).
CALA Edinburgh II moved off the foot of the division with a 7-5 win over Waverley Inveresk Trinity, but lost to Grange II (3-7) and Alpha Data Carnegie (1-5).
National Indoor League Midland & North Division
Perthshire still top the Midland & North Division with a 100% win rate after defeating Harris Academy FP II and Granite City Wanderers II both by 5-1 scorelines.
Aberdeen GSFP kept pace with the league leaders with three wins today over AAM Gordonians (5-2), Dundee Wanderers III (9-2) and promotion rivals Stirling Wanderers (5-2).
Stirling Wanderers are six points back in third after wins over AAM Gordonians II (6-3) and Dundee Wanderers III (8-1). The Dundonians recorded their first point of the league campaign with 2-2 draw with AAM Gordonians II. Granite City Wanderers won 4-3 against Harris Academy FP II to pull away from the bottom two sides.
