Richard Docherty Indoor Cup returns to Edinburgh
The Richard Docherty Indoor Cup returns to Edinburgh this
forthcoming January and promises to be even bigger and better than
the successful inaugural event that was staged at the start of
2012.
As many in Scottish hockey will know, Richard sadly passed away in
the summer of 2010 and this fitting tournament is a testament to
his love for hockey and the enjoyment he had of the sport.
With even more international star players participating and the
addition of a new women’s competition, there will be a feast of top
class hockey on show at the [EN]GAGE Sports Centre at Edinburgh
Napier University’s Sighthill campus. The second Richard Docherty
Indoor Cup will take place from 4-6 January 2013.
Teams taking part in the men’s competition include the Netherlands’
HC RGD, Germany’s Grossflottbecker HC and a Globetrotters World
Select. Scotland’s Inverleith HC, Grove Menzieshill HC and a Team
Alba select make up the other teams. In the women’s competition,
Grange HC, CALA Edinburgh HC and Inverleith HC will be battling it
out.
There will be a host of international hockey talent for you to
watch throughout the three days as well, including Laurence
Docherty (brother of Richard and Dutch international), Taco Van Der
Honert, Floris Jan Bovelander (Dutch Olympic Gold medallists),
Barry Middleton, Richard Smith, Ben Hawes (all England and GB
internationals), Philip Witte (German Olympic Gold Medallist).
Scotland stars past and present will also be competing, such as
Graham Moodie, Ross Stott, Gavin Byers, Kris Kane, Douglas Simpson
and Callum Duke.
