Rhett Halkett appointed as Scotland U21 men’s head coach
Rhett Halkett has been appointed as the new head coach for the Scotland men’s U21 team. Rhett will also assist Scotland Men’s National Team Head Coach, Derek Forsyth.
Rhett has a prolific hockey CV and joins Scottish Hockey from Strathallan School where he was the head of hockey and head of golf.
As an assistant coach Rhett is an Olympic gold medallist at Tokyo 2021; European Championship gold medal winners 2021, Amsterdam; and Hockey Pro League winners in the 2020/2021 season. Rhett was also assistant for Scotland men at the recent Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
As a player Rhett amassed a total of 155 international hockey matches for South Africa and captained his country 35 times. He has competed at the 2012 Olympics and the 2010 & 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Halkett said, “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead this U21 programme. I can’t wait to get started, meet the players and help them achieve their individual and team goals within this environment.
“I’d like to thank Strathallan School for their support throughout my development as an international hockey coach.
“It has been great working with the Scottish senior men’s team over a busy international summer, and I hope to build on the fantastic work Graham Moodie and his team of staff have done with the U21 program over the years.”
