Pro League comes to Glasgow – fixtures announced

The FIH has today confirmed the hugely exciting fixture list for the first ever Hockey Pro League in 2019.

The Glasgow National Hockey Centre will be home to the Pakistan men’s squad for all their Pro league home matches for four years, meaning the world’s best sides will play in Glasgow in the revolutionary new competition.

The men’s FiH Hockey Pro League will feature Pakistan, England/GB, Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand, Spain, and the Netherlands, and will run from January until June each year from 2019 for a minimum of four years.

The competition is a new initiative where the World’s top teams play each other in a series of televised globally home and away matches, leading to Olympic and World Cup qualification.

Rio Olympic Champions Argentina will be Pakistan’s opponents in the first Pro League match to be held in Glasgow, followed by a hotly-anticipated clash with Great Britain. The Netherlands come to town on Sunday 16th June 2019.

With Pakistan men playing in Glasgow, Scotland, their match against Great Britain on 25 May is bound capture the imagination of fans. A large local Pakistani crowd will be looking forward to the friendly rivalry with their British opponents as they aim to defend their home turf in one of Great Britain’s most multi-cultured cities.

Pakistan will also play five matches annually against Scotland men at venues across Scotland as part of the agreement. There will also be the opportunity for visiting teams to play competitive matches against Scotland as part of their preparation for matches against Pakistan.

The opportunity to host more world-class hockey in Glasgow is a major boost for the profile of hockey in Scotland, and of Scotland as an outstanding host for top hockey events.

Sat 25 May 2019 – Pakistan – Great Britain

Sun 26 May 2019 – Pakistan v Belgium

Fri 31 May 2019 – Pakistan v Germany

Fri 7 June 2019 – Pakistan v Australia

Sun 16 June 2019 – Pakistan v Netherlands

Fri 21 June 2019 – Pakistan v New Zealand

Sun 23 June 2019 – Pakistan v Spain
