Over 100 Schools & Clubs taking part in the Commonwealth Dribble
Commonwealth Dribbling Century has been reached!
Over 100 school, club and community groups are now involved in the Commonwealth Dribble, part of Scottish Hockey’s Hockey Generation programme to link into Glasgow 2014. The Commonwealth Dribble is aimed primarily at schools, but has attracted a range of groups including hockey clubs and cub packs. The programme challenges groups to dribble a distance equivalent to the area of a Commonwealth nation, as well as providing additional hockey-based classroom activities. Groups have been able to choose any Commonwealth nation or territory and can dribble multiple nations.
To date, 103 separate groups/schools have registered to take part in the dribble with more than 5,700 children taking part; ranging from schools where hundreds of pupils have taken part in a whole school challenge to small classes of less than 10 in rural schools. The nature of the Commonwealth Dribble allows all sizes of groups and abilities to get involved and set the challenge to suit their context and aspirations. The highest achiever so far is Newtonhill Primary in Aberdeenshire, where they have more than completed their Canada challenge, dribbling a whopping 110,130m – that’s more than 110km!
With updates continuing to stream in from participating groups, the national total for the Commonwealth Dribble currently stands at 673,173m. As schools focus on the Commonwealth Games in their summer term, we expect to see a rush of updates reported to us in the coming weeks. It’s not too late for schools to get involved if they want to add the Commonwealth Dribble to health weeks or summer term activities. Full details are at /hockey-generation/commonwealth-dribble.aspx.
Well done to the following groups who have completed their challenge distance. For those still dribbling, keep going and we look forward to receiving news of your achievements. Scottish Hockey is currently working on the next stage of the challenge and full details will be available soon to help you to keep dribbling into the new season…
