Old rivalries renewed at Auchenhowie
Western Wildcats and Glynhill Hotel Kelburne renew old rivalries
when they meet for the first time this season in the Aberdeen Asset
Management Men’s League this weekend at Auchenhowie (13.30.)
Over the years these games have always been close, keenly fought
affairs with goals aplenty on the agenda with the outcome usually
having a major bearing on the destination of the league title.
Western’s coach Vishal Marwah believes “Kelburne have been the
best team in the league for the past few years” quickly adding ”
However this is a challenge we always look forward to.”
Kelburne’s manager Harry Coles countered “Despite the fact that
Western have had a rather mixed bag of results this season, we know
we will have to bring our “A” game to get the win we require to
maintain the pressure on Grange.”
The reigning champions are only to well aware of the scoring
threat carried by the Wildcats and in Scott McCartney they possess
one of Scotland’s top set piece exponents. However Marwaha was more
concerned by last week’s disappointing home defeat at the hands of
Inverleith pointing out “We didn’t play well and gave away some
soft goals.”
Willie Marshall returns to action for the visitors following his
recent suspension but Gareth Hall and Ross McIntyre remain long
term absentees and for Western Euan Miller and Steven Percy are
still sidelined.
Coles finished by saying “I feel the team are playing very well
but I would think it will be very important to minimise the number
of short corners we concede on Saturday.” Marwaha’s summing up was
“We will need to significantly raise our performance levels in
order to get a positive result.”
Inverleith coach Stevie McCurry felt that last week’s win over
the Wildcats ” Reaped the benefits of all the hard work that has
been put in this season” and he will be looking for a continuation
when they entertain Watsonians at Peffermill(14.45.)
Although Inverleith won the President’s Cup clash between the
two sides earlier in the season, McCurry was keen to point out “We
will be taking nothing for granted this weekend and will look to
maintain last weekend’s high standards.” Paul Ritchie, Andy Malcolm
and Chris Bird remain unavailable for selection, however McCurry is
hopeful that Fabian Wolski will return to the squad in time to face
Watsonians.
PSL Clydesdale in the past fortnight have shown promise despite
narrow defeats against Kelburne and Grange. Saturday will give new
coach John McKnight’s side the chance to build on these displays
when AAM Gordonians visit Titwood(14.30.)
A win for McKnight’s team would see them comfortably placed mid
table with the winter shutdown approaching. However Gordonians face
a vital basement table clash with Watsonians at
Countesswells(14.00) on Sunday.
League leaders Grange travel to Prague this weekend to take part
in the Pragochema Indoor Cup. Grange have been placed in a group
with Dinamo Ekaterinburg (Rus), OKS Vinnitsa (UKR) and KPH Raca
(SLO.)
