No shocks in the Scottish Cup.
The only first division clash in the Men’s Arthur McKay Scottish
Cup was the meeting of AMN Hillhead and Greaves Clydesdale which
saw the home side claiming a place in the last eight with a three
goal win.
Clydesdale enjoyed the majority of territorial possession in the
first period without being able to find an end product. The best
chances fell to Ben Peterson and Gordon Munro, however as often
happens Hillhead made them pay the penalty, when the visitors
failed to clear their lines and Craig Paterson pounced to drive the
ball past keeper Stuart Brown from the top of the circle shortly
before the interval.
The second half saw the roles reversed with Hillhead taking
control of proceedings and following a series of short corners
Graeme Campbell double their advantage with a powerful drag
flick.
Clydesdale had no option but to push forward and once again
Keith Joss’s side took full advantage of the spaces opening up by
hitting them on the break when a diving Andrew Hilton finished off
a flowing move.
There were no surprises in the other ties with Glynhill Hotel
Kelburne running out 21-0 winners over Harris Academy from the
second tier with Alan Forsyth’s five goals the leading
contribution. The other goals coming from Willie Marshall (3),
Michael Christie (3), Ross McIntyre (2), Lee Morton (2), Michael
Bremner (2), Gareth Hall (2) and Josh Cairns (2.)
Inverleith enjoyed a 6-2 win over second division McWhinney
Uddingston with doubles from Andrew Sinclair and Derek Salmond The
other goals came from Richard Jess and Jake Hibbert.
Grange edged through against neighbours Watsonians with goals
from Cammie Fraser and a late penalty corner from Rob Barr and the
final game saw Dundee University beat Perthshire 6-3 in an all
third division encounter.
Meanwhile there were no shocks in the Women’s competition where
the first division sides all got the better of second division
opposition.
Grove Menzieshill won 9-0 against Granite City Wanderers with
goals from Louise Baxter and doubles from Linda Clement, Louise
Carroll, Ali Bell and Ailsa Wylie.
Milne Craig Western returned from their long sojourn north to
play Highland in Inverness with a three goal victory courtesy of
Karin Belch, Nicola Pitticas and a penalty stroke from Catriona
Ralph.
Glynhill Hotel Kelburne ensured there would be no ignominious
exit this year by rattling seven goals past Watsonians in
Edinburgh.
Meanwhile VWS Dundee Wanderers eased past third division
Stirling Wanderers at Forthbank with five goals from captain Becky
Ward (2), Mandy Crawford, Jen Kyle and Fiona Plain. Western
Wildcats moved through rattling home eight goals against George
Heriots.
The only all first division game saw CALA Edinburgh finish
Grange EL’s interest in the Cup by a comfortable three goal
margin.
The other teams involved in the quarter final draw will be made
up by Giffnock who ran out comfortable winners last week against St
Andrews University and the winners of the re-arranged game between
Edinburgh University and Giffnock second team held over until early
February next year.
