No changes at the top of the Premiership

In the women`s Premiership all the top sides won and there was no change at the top.

Leaders Clydesdale Western saw off Western Wildcats 3-0, they were two up at the interval through Emma McGregor and Heather Lang. Holly Steiger added another in the second half and that was the end of the scoring. Wildcats were several players short due to Covid and injury and were under pressure at the end and only several saves from keeper Joyne McLaughlin kept Clydesdale at bay.

Watsonians are level on points with Clydesdale after a 6-0 win at Hillhead, although they still trail on goal difference and have played a game more. The highlight was a hat-trick from Scotland striker Sarah Jamieson while the other goals came from Nikki Stobie, Katie Crawford and Katherine Holdgate.

Third placed Edinburgh University also won comfortably 5-0 against GHK, courtesy of a hat-trick from Amy Brodie with Ava Smith and Katie Robertson also scoring.

In the lower division Glasgow University and Uddingston are tied on 19 points at the top, the latter top on a single goal. The Lanarkshire side went to Erskine Stewart Melville and came away with a 1-0 win, courtesy of a goal from McKenzie Bell.

Meanwhile, Glasgow University were held to a 1-1 draw by Grove Menzieshill, Corrie Hay opened for the students with a penalty corner rebound, but in the final minute schoolgirl Esher Lang, on her first team debut, put the last touch on the equaliser.

In the final game Dundee Wanderers eased away from the relegation area with a 2-1 win at Gordonians and now take over ninth spot from the Aberdonians. San Sangster opened for the Taysiders at a penalty corner, but Mairi McAdam levelled for the home side. Almost inevitably it was Vikki Bunce who put Wanderers 2-1 with a shot that came off a defender`s stick and looped over the keeper. That was the score at the interval and also at the end.

Western Wildcats are still very much in control in the men`s Premiership, they retain a seven point lead at the top after a 5-3 win over Watsonians.

Jonny Christie opened the scoring for Western in only four minutes, but in the second quarter Murdo McDonald replied for the Edinburgh side. However, by the interval Western had romped into a 3-1 lead through Rob Harwood and a penalty corner conversion by Andrew McConnell.

Watsonians` resistance was aided by a penalty corner strike by Dan Coultas, but Western stepped it up and moved into 5-2 lead through Adam McKenzie and Harwood again. Owen Hunter got his first Premiership goal at the back post for Watsonians to make it 5-3, but that only proved to be a consolation.

Grange beat Clydesdale 3-2 in the end but the result was perhaps not really in doubt. The Edinburgh side were two up at the interval through Albert Rowling and Calum Lothian, and then increased their advantage to three with another goal from Pete Caughey. In the final eight minutes the Titwood-based side came to life with goals from David Nairn and Euan Anderson, but not enough to prevent the three points travelling back down the M8 to Edinburgh.

In the other top six encounter Edinburgh University consolidated their third place with a comfortable 6-2 win over Dunfermline Carnegie. Guy Rowson was top scorer with a double while Keir Robb, Robbie Croll, Cameron and Iain McFadden got the others, a double by Aidan McQuade was the Fifers` reply.

In the lower division of the Premiership Uddingston have moved into fifth spot with a comfortable 4-1 win at Dundee Wanderers, the catalyst was a hat-trick from Finn Halliday with Bryan Sterling getting the other. Bobby Ralph got Wanderers` consolation from a penalty corner rebound.

Hillhead also moved well away from the relegation zone with a 4-3 home win over Grove Menzieshill, the goals came from Mark Carder, Yan Adams, John Raid and Fraser Ward.

In the other game Kelburne also distances themselves from the drop with a 4-2 win over Inverleith, Ciaran Wilcox got two and Dylan Bradley and Sam Hunt were the other scorers, Kyle Taylor and Livo Belotti got Inverleith`s consolations.
