Next up Austria in Aleksin
EUROPEAN JUNIOR NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS 11 – ALEKSIN
(RUSSIA) – 15-21 JULY 2012
After being held to a goalless draw by Ukraine, Scotland
women`s under 21 squad slipped back to second spot in the European
Nations Championships 11 in Aleksin, two points behind hosts Russia
who lead the table with two victories under their
belt.
This has left Dave Stott, Scotland`s coach, rather pensive as he
evaluated progress during today`s rest day. “It was
important not to lose in the opening two matches, and we did that
but six points would have been better. So it`s
important to win our next two games against Austria and Lithuania
and set up a showdown with Russia in the final match.”
But Stott has also two injury worries in the squad, Milne Craig
Western defender Nicola Lowrey has a back strain and has yet to
play in the tournament, but will undergo a fitness test to see if
she is able to turn out against Austria today.
Edinburgh University`s Bethan Mann is sidelined with a twisted
ankle and that will need rest if she is to play a part in the
latter stages.
However, a confident Stott said: “I believe we have the players
to win our remaining games and win promotion, Russia on their own
patch will be the biggest test. I was disappointed with
what I`ve seen of them so far, but they are very dangerous at
penalty corners.”
Tomorrow the Scots youngsters take on Austria who have only one
point so far in the pool, a win here is essential for Stott`s
aspirations.
