NASUWT Tayside & Fife Hockey Festival 2012

Primary schools & junior clubs from across Angus,
Dundee & Perth and Kinross came together for the Tayside and
Fife Hockey Festival on the 16th May. Eleven teams of mixed
experience put on a great show at Riverside in Dundee.
Coaches, teachers and parents offered loud and enthusiastic
encouragement to all teams which added to the atmosphere on the
day.

The festival provides a great opportunity for young players to
enjoy friendly but keenly contested competition and is key to the
player pathway for hockey in Angus, Dundee and Perth &
Kinross.  The teams participated in 6-a-side games in two
closely fought pools which show the continued development of hockey
in these areas.

The teams were split into two pools, Timmergreens Primary,
Tannadice Primary, Blairgowrie Juniors, Rattray Primary &
Forthill Primary in pool A.  With Dundee Wanderers Cluster
Club, Ladyloan Primary, Kinnoull Cluster, Community School of
Auchterarder, Strathmore Primary & Barnhill Primary in pool
B.

In two very closely contested pools, Blairgowrie Juniors and
Kinnoull Cluster came out on top and went on to compete in a very
tight final.  Although a different opponent this year for the
team from Kinnoull they were again taken to extra time.  In
almost a mirror image of last year’s final the very last hit of the
game brought the winning goal for Kinnoull.  At the moment
Blairgowrie Juniors must be wondering what they have to do to beat
the team from Kinnoull as it was the same result in the final of
the local primary festival in Perth & Kinross.

In a continuation of the format from last year, the top two teams
from each area will progress to the NASUWT National Primary
Festival at Peffermill in Edinburgh on 7th June.  The
successful teams are, Timmergreens Primary and Strathmore Primary
from Angus, Forthill Primary and Barnhill Primary from Dundee and
Kinnoull Cluster and Blairgowrie Juniors from Perth & Kinross.

A huge thanks is given to all the teachers, coaches & parents
who support the teams. Thanks is also due to the NASUWT for their
support and to the umpires for taking charge of the games and
giving up their time to help with the smooth running of this
event.
