NASUWT National Primary Festival 2012
On Thursday 7 June over 450 pupils, teachers, coaches
and volunteers descended upon Peffermill to take part in the 2012
NASUWT National Primary Festival.
This year we saw 37 teams enter the festival from 19 local
Authorities – the highest level of participation since the event
began. The day offered a fantastic opportunity for young players to
come along and play in a fun environment on the National Hockey
Academy pitches while honing their hockey skills.
This year saw the introduction of a new partnership with NASUWT,
the largest teachers’ union in the UK, who sponsored the event and
will continue to do so over the next two years. Through the
invaluable support of the NASUWT we were able to offer subsidised
travel to all the teams, a huge help which only made the day
possible for many of the teams. Additional support from the NASUWT
allowed every child to take away a goody bag containing mementos of
the day.
Despite a delayed start due to several teams getting stuck in
traffic, we were able to get the day off to a good start and caught
up on any lost time over the course of the day. The enthusiasm and
excitement displayed by many of the children goes to show how
important an event like this is in encouraging and developing youth
level hockey.
A huge thank you goes, to not only the NASUWT but to every
teacher, coach and volunteer who came along and made the effort to
make the day possible for the children, we’re already looking
forward to next year! Should you want any further information on
how to take part please contact Louise
McIntyre.
