Narrow defeats for U16 boys in Netherlands
Scotland`s under 16 boys were unlucky in both their
games at the HDM youth tournament in Den Haag (Netherlands), in the
first encounter they conceded an overtime penalty corner to lost
4-3 to Irish side Ipswich College, then lost a goal two minutes
from time to go down 2-1 to Dutch side Gouda.
The Scots youngsters were 2-1 ahead against Ipswich at the
interval, both strikes came from Western Wildcats` Rob
Harwood. But the Irish retaliated to take a 3-2 lead before
Callum Boag of VWS Dundee Wanderers equalised from a penalty
corner.
In the second match of the day, Gouda went into a 1-0 lead after
only four minutes but the Scots drew level with a goal from
Glynhill Kelburne`s Andrew Duff. Despite outplaying their
Dutch opponents after the interval, it was the Dutch who won the
match with a goal in the final two minutes.
“The kids are doing very well considering all the teams we are
playing are under 18 and huge boys,” said Steve Bain, Scotland`s
manager.
