Morgan Academy announce dinner date
Morgan Academy Men’s Hockey Club have arranged a dinner for Veterans and players on 11th May 2013 in Dundee. This date coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the very day Morgan FP won the Scottish Cup in 1963. The Club’s name is at the top of the list of winners on the Trophy as this was also the first year of the Scottish Cup competition.
The dinner is intended to celebrate the many successes of the Club and more importantly, the fellowship and friendship enjoyed over the years. The club was formed on 14th September 1923, some 90 years ago this year.
As a flavour of the high points of the past, some items are included here. The Club acknowledges that it was fortunate to have several members who gained National honours and to have an Olympian.
Some may remember the “Sevens” victory in 1935 and 1949; the league trophy in 1939; the Midlands and Watsonian “Sixes” in 1962. Although the pinnacle of achievement is the winning of The Scottish Cup in 1963, the club reached the final again in 1967 and 1974.
Morgan FP Men’s Hockey Club amalgamated with some other local clubs to form FMGM Monarchs. This amalgam has enjoyed recent successes in National Indoor Titles, Midlands Division 2 Titles with the prospect of promotion to National League Division 2. Player successes are worthy of note, three players achieved U16 International status and one player represented the Royal Navy.
The dinner starts at 7.30pm and the dress code is smart casual.
The cost for the dinner is £35 (wine included) and is for Morgan and FMGM Monarch players past and present.
