More successes for international umpires
Good news for Scotland’s international umpire fraternity.
Martin Madden was selected to umpire the recent FIH Champions Trophy final between hosts Australia and Olympic runners-up the Netherlands in Melbourne. Australia won the match 2-1 with a golden goal winner in extra time.

Scottish umpires Sarah Wilson and Irene Clelland have also been selected for the ‘Road to Hague and Road to Rio’ Umpire Development Project. The project was implemented in January 2011 in preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games and the consensus among the umpires was that it was a successful idea.
The project will continue into the next Olympic cycle, via the World Cup in the Hague, Netherlands in 2014, through to the next Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil in 2016
Robert Heatly, Scottish Hockey Chief Executive Officer, said, “Once again, our international umpires are continuing to perform at the highest level and are being rewarded for their commitment and excellence. I’m delighted that Martin Madden was selected for the Champions Trophy final, which following Ged Curran’s selection for the men’s Olympic Final in London, is great representation for Scotland.
“I also extend my congratulations to Sarah and Irene for their selection to the Umpire Development Project. To have another two umpires working towards two of the most important competitions in hockey is fantastic news.”
