Last second Grove
SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE (WOMEN)
Grove Menzieshill are hanging on to their Subway
national league title by the skin of their teeth, the game against
Edinburgh University seemed to be heading for a 3-3 draw, a result
that would put Milne Craig Western in pole position in the
table. But with two seconds remaining, Ailsa Wyllie scored a
very late winner for the Taysiders to keep them on
top.
In a pulsating contest, Wyllie, Ali Bell and Leigh Fawcett
scored for Grove while international striker Sam Judge notched a
hat-trick for the Edinburgh students, but Wyllie`s late strike
proved to be a cruel blow for the plucky students.
Milne Craig Western kept in touch with a rather unconvincing 2-1
win over second bottom side Grange, and remain only a point behind
the Tayside champions. In a game of missed chances,
Nicola Pitticas and Susan McGilveray from the spot were Western`s
scorers.
Giffnock failed to eat into Western`s lead in second spot
after drawing 1-1 with VWS Dundee Wanderers. It was a
question of converting penalty corners, in the first half Wanderers
had five and failed to score, while Giffnock scored from their
second award through Kareena Marshall just before the
interval. Wanderers continued to squander penalty corners,
but early in the second half drew level with a rebound goal from
Heather Elder to finish the game on level terms.
CALA Edinburgh have finally pulled themselves to safety at the
bottom of the table with a 2-1 win over Glynhill Kelburne.
