Last lap for Grove

SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE

Grove Menzieshill can secure their sixth consecutive
women`s Subway national league title if they can see off Glynhill
Kelburne on Tayside this Saturday, any other result would
effectively donate the crown to rivals Milne Craig Western, who
lurk a single point behind.

The Dundonians have won both games against Kelburne this season,
but not by much, only 2-1 in the first half of the season, then 3-2
in the cup quarter-final with a last minute strike by Leigh Fawcett
to finally secure the victory.

Kelburne are involved with Edinburgh University who play
Wildcats, VWS Dundee Wanderers at home to bottom side GHK, and CALA
Edinburgh who entertain city rivals Grange, to sort out the
mid-table positions.

However, for Grange it is a matter of survival, currently they
are second bottom, only one point ahead of GHK, and are desperate
for points against Dundee Wanderers tonight and CALA on
Saturday.

The big game in the men`s league is the Bellahouston showdown
between Glynhill Kelburne, already crowned champions, and second
placed Grange on Saturday.   In some respects it is a
game that both sides could well do without given that they have
Scottish Cup semi-final duty the following day.
Although the Paisley side have yet to drop a point at all this
season, a Grange victory would finally secure the second European
spot next season, it would put the Edinburgh side four points ahead
of Western Wildcats with only one game remaining for both.

Much may depend on the approach of Kelburne, and manager Harry
Coles admitted that there were several knocks and injuries
following last weekend`s game against Inverleith.   It
may be that the Kelburne management decide to rest some key players
with the cup tie in mind and Europe the following
week,

Grange, also with injury concerns, failed to confirm their
second place status last Saturday after being 3-2 behind to third
bottom Hillhead, only to be bailed out by an Edinburgh fog.

With Hillhead having no league fixture this weekend, coach Keith
Joss will be very interested in the affairs at Meggetland where
second bottom CALA Edinburgh have their crucial final game against
an improving Greaves Clydesdale.  CALA are two points adrift
of Hillhead in the bid to avoid the relegation play-off spot, and
only the full three points will save the Edinburgh
side.

Menzieshill could make fifth spot their own by completing a
miserable season for city rivals Dundee Wanderers who are already
heading for the second division having amassed only one point the
entire season.
