Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s National League Division 1: Kelburne (Morton 19′, Christie.M 25′, Ralph 34′, McKenzie 63′) 4-1 Hillhead (Hilton.A 45′)
Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 1 champions Kelburne moved up to second place in the table with a 4-1 win over Hillhead at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre this evening.
In the first of Scottish Hockey’s Friday night matches, the Paisley outfit ran out comfortable winners thanks to goals from Lee Morton, Michael Christie, Mark Ralph and Jack McKenzie. Andrew Hilton got Hillhead’s consolation from the spot.
Kelburne opened the scoring in thre 19th minute when Lee Morton latched onto a sublime through ball from midfield, and with only Hillhead ‘keeper Jamie Frail to beat, the Scotland youth international rounded the outstretched dive to tuck the ball home and make it 1-0.
Six minutes later, the defending champions doubled their lead after Johnny Christie forced a fine save from Frail, only for Michael Christie to pounce on the re-bound and slam home the ball for a 2-0 advantage.
On the stroke of half-time, Mark Ralph stepped up to dispatch a penalty corner drag-flick into the right hand side of the goal to give his side a commanding 3-0 lead at the interval.
Hillhead found a lifeline ten minutes into the second half when Andrew Hilton scored a penalty stroke to put his side back into the contest at 3-1.
The match then petered out slightly with goalscoring opportunities few and far between but Kelburne wrapped up the match in the 63rd minute following a counter-attack involving Morton and the two Christie brothers that resulted in Jack McKenzie having an easy tap-in from close range to make the final score 4-1.
