Junior women in Czech
Dave Stott, Scotland women`s under 21 coach, is determined
to succeed in Europe this season, and continues his build-up
programme with four games in the Czech Republic this
weekend. The Scots youngsters are due to play the
Czech national side in two of the games followed by club sides
Prague and Zeny CR.
“We have top level targets this summer, winning the Celtic Cup
and promotion from the European Junior Nations Challenge
II. If we can achieve both targets, we can consider it
a successful programme,” said Stott.
Due to the withdrawal of two nations both pools are reduced to
three teams, and the Scots will face the Czechs and hosts Russia in
Aleksin in the Europeans this coming July.
“Our games in Prague this weekend will be a good test of the
squad and an indication of where we are,” said Stott.
“The Czechs are in the game pool as us, so it`s an ideal
opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses both
technically and tactically.”
Stott will have the benefit of the experience of Nicki Cochrane,
Sarah Robertson, Kerry Hall, Nicola Skrastin and Ali Howie, all of
whom gained their first senior caps for Scotland in the test series
against South Africa only last week. “These players
will have benefitted greatly from playing against South Africa, a
side bound for the London Olympics,” Stott
remarked. At the other end of the scale, two
under 18 players Lucy Lanigan and Louise Campbell have been called
up for Prague this weekend.
The bulk of Stott`s squad has come from Grove Menzieshill, Milne
Craig Western and Edinburgh University, all of whom finished in the
top four in this season`s national league.
