Ireland too strong for Scots
Scotland U18 Girls were left with food for thought in the lead up to EuroHockey U18 Nations Championship this summer after a 4-0 loss to Ireland at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre this morning.
It was the Scots’ third straight loss to their Irish counterparts following two defeats yesterday, who left Glasgow with three wins against the hosts and one win against Wales earlier in the week.
After a goalless first thirty minutes, Jessica McMaster finally broke the deadlock, deflecting Zoe Wilson’s penalty corner drag-flick past Erin Gilchrist in the Scottish goal to make 1-0.
Wilson was again involved in the Irish second goal on the stroke of half-time, this time her drag-flick nestled in the back of the net to leave her side 2-0 up at the interval.
Wilson was on hand to take advantage of a loose defensive pass from the home side in the 40th minute, playing a one-two with Sally Campbell that resulted in her tapping the ball into the vacant goal for a 3-0 lead.
The Irish wrapped up the win two minutes later, Sally Campbell scoring from close range to give the visitors a winning 4-0 scoreline.
