Inverleith star Stephen Dick relishing Euro indoor test

Inverleith Hockey Club’s Stephen Dick has had his fair share of
highs and lows over the last few years. He represented GB in the
2008 Beijing Olympics, but dropped from GB Hockey favour after a
series of calamitous injuries.

This weekend, however, he’s looking forward to the EuroHockey
Indoor Club Trophy, the first hosted by a Scottish club. Proud of
his achievements with GB Hockey, he’s every bit as excited about
Inverleith’s first outing in European competition.

“It’s fantastic that Inverleith are competing at a European level,”
says Dick,” and I know it means a lot to the players that we’re
also hosting it here in Edinburgh.”

Over three days of competition, there will be 21 matches between
some of the best clubs in Europe and all of it is being streamed
live online by Glasgow-based media company, QuipuTV.

“I think hockey in Scotland sometimes lives in the shadow of
football and rugby,” laments Dick, “but it’s fantastic that the
whole tournament is being streamed live. There are going to be some
of international hockey’s best players here and that standard of
hockey can now be enjoyed by fans across Scotland, the UK, Europe
and the world. It’s a great advert for Scottish hockey.”

Coverage of all of this year’s EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy can be
found on the Inverleith HC website and the SHU website from 0945
GMT on Friday.
