Inverleith move into joint second place
Inverleith defeated VWS Dundee Wanderers (5-3)
in a catch up fixture in the Men’s Subway National League this
afternoon at Peffermill.
This fixture had been postponed a couple of
weeks ago following severe traffic problems in the capital leaving
the Dundee club unable to reach the ground in time.
Coach Stevie McCurry reflected “We played very
well today and I feel that the final score somewhat flattered
Wanderers.” Inverleith leapfrog Western Wildcats after this result
and now move into joint second place alongside Grange.
The Edinburgh team now play Hillhead and
Clydesdale before the winter break and having already beaten both
sides, earlier in the season, McCurry will be looking for a strong
finish.
Inverleith’s goalscorers were Thomas Cousins,
Derek Salmond, Phil Hall, Richard Jess and Adam McKenzie with Ally
Wood (2) and Ross Glashan on the mark for the visitors.
Meanwhile Giffnock booked a place in the quarter
finals of the Arthur McKay Scottish Cup with a routine seven goal
win over St Andrews University Ladies at Hutcheson’s Grammar
School.
The third division side held their more
illustrious opponents to a single goal in the first half but as the
game went on found it difficult to cope with the pace and power of
the Giffnock side with Lucy Lannigan and Rhona Simpson recording
doubles.
The remainder of the ties take place next
Sunday. This match was brought forward at the request of the
students due to celebrations being held at the University next
weekend.
