Inverleith Euro tournament live on internet TV this weekend
Inverleith Hockey Club, competing in and hosting a European indoor
club tournament for the first time, has secured the services of
QuipuTV to provide live streaming coverage of the event over the
internet.
All 21 matches of the seven-team EuroHockey Men’s Indoor Trophy
will be screened live from the new [EN]Gage sports centre at Napier
University in Edinburgh, over three days starting on Friday 17
February. The 2011 Scottish indoor champions will be joined by the
indoor champion clubs from France, Belgium, the Ukraine, Czech
Republic, Portugal and Denmark. The tournament finalists gain
promotion to the Championship division.
It will be the first time that a European hockey tournament has
been televised live from Scotland. Glasgow-based Quipu TV will have
four cameras covering the event, showing seven games each
day.
John Bell, the Inverleith club’s vice-president who has spearheaded
the organisation of the event, said: “We had a huge success at the
beginning of the year with the Richard Docherty memorial
tournament, which featured so many top players from around Europe.
This served as a full-scale ‘dress rehearsal’ for the forthcoming
European Trophy, and we were determined to make live coverage
possible.
“The Engage Sports Centre at Napier University’s Sighthill campus
proved to be an ideal venue, and we were able to provide spectator
seating for 250 people. However, there will be many times more
supporters of all the visiting clubs who will be keen to see how
their teams progress. This is why the proposed live streamed
coverage is perfectly suited to the occasion.”
Coverage will be free-to-air, and directly accessible through the
Inverleith Hockey Club website www.inverleith-hc.co.uk, or from the
Scottish Hockey Union’s website www.scottish-hockey.org.uk.
