Honours for hockey at Edinburgh University Sports Hall of Fame

Scotland international star Sam Judge and Maggie Salmond were both honoured at an Edinburgh University dinner in recognition of their contribution to hockey.
Edinburgh University player-coach Judge, who has now made 184 appearances for Scotland and has represented Great Britain, was inducted into the university’s Sports Hall of Fame along with women’s football star Gemma Fay and water polo player Alan Anderson.
Rowing legend and four-time Olympic Gold medallist Sir Matthew Pinsent and Vice Principal and Director Corporate Services, Nigel Paul, presented awards to the Sports Hall of Fame inductees at the University’s Annual Blues and Colours sports dinner.
Previous inductees to the Sports Hall of Fame include six-time Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, Olympic gold medallist rower Katherine Grainger, and Olympic 400m running champion Eric Liddell.
Jim Aitken, University Director Of Sport And Exercise and Scottish Hockey Board Member said, “We are delighted to have Sir Matthew Pinsent with us as we welcome these superb graduate athletes to the University’s Sports Hall of Fame.
“All Hall of Fame inductees have demonstrated outstanding commitment and excellence in their respective sports and have rightfully earned this honour, which is the highest sporting accolade the University can give.”
Maggie Salmond was also presented with the Alan Chainey Award at last night’s dinner, which is offered for voluntary services to University of Edinburgh sport and in recognition of her huge contribution to women’s hockey.

Judge also joins fellow hockey stars Alison Ramsay (2008 inductee) and Ali McGregor (2012 inductee), bringing the total from hockey to three.
