Holly Cram runs a few marathons
Senior women player Holly Cram, a reserve player for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, is taking on an incredible challenge this August to raise cash for the MS Society – she’s running the West Highland Way over three days (1-3 August). That’s a marathon and a half a day!
Holly has had a long and successful career playing for Scotland and Great Britain, and was disappointed not to be picked for the Commonwealth team. However, as an ambassador for the Games who regularly speaks at schools on the importance of resilience, determination and hard work; she’s practicing what she preaches and using her fitness and free time to take on the West Highland Way.
Holly chose to raise money for the MS Society because her dad, Nigel, has MS. She says: “My dad has always been really sporty and active and travelled all over the world to watch me play. Since his diagnosis six years ago, his mobility has declined and he now struggles to attend my local games. This has been very painful for my family and I worry that he might miss out on the things he enjoys. I want to raise as much money as I can to help make a difference to other families going through the same thing – over 11,000 people in Scotland have MS so it affects many families across the country. I also want to raise awareness of the support available from the MS Society, such as providing grants for items needed as a result of MS, and of the research the charity funds to beat MS.”
Nicola Sinclair, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at the MS Society said: “We’re delighted (and very impressed) that Holly is taking on this incredible challenge to support people living with MS, and wish her good luck! The MS Society is the biggest charitable funder of MS research in the UK and it’s with the support of our fantastic fundraisers that we will beat MS.”
