Hockey volunteers selected as ‘London 2012 Games Makers’
A number of Scottish Hockey members and employees have been
selected as volunteers for the Olympic Games this summer.
As ‘London 2012 Games Makers’, they will be the face of London
2012, with the chance to show what the UK is all about; excellence,
passion and positivity. Set against this truly inspirational
backdrop, they will build new friendships, develop skills and play
an integral role at the heart of the largest event ever staged in
the UK.
Neal Beaton, Performance Administrator at Scottish Hockey has been
selected to be part of the hockey administration team helping to
organise the hockey competition at the Riverbank Arena:
“To be involved in the Olympic Games in London this summer was too
big an opportunity not to pursue so I applied to be a volunteer
last year. Thankfully, I was selected as part of the hockey
administration team so I’m delighted to be actively involved in one
of the biggest sporting events this country has ever seen; a real
once in a lifetime experience”
“My role as volunteer at London 2012 will allow me able to transfer
new skills and knowledge to my role here at Scottish Hockey and
hopefully bring added value to the organisation. I also plan to
volunteer at Glasgow 2014, which will also be a great occasion for
this country.”
For Elanor Cormack, Tayside & Fife Development Manager, London
2012 will be her second major games having been part of the
volunteer team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne:
“My experience of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne was fantastic
and obviously London 2012 promises to be even bigger and better
with it being the Olympic Games. Organising the training schedule
and logistics for all the competing teams will be demanding, but a
really worthwhile opportunity to learn new skills in a pressurised
environment. I’m really looking forward to it.”
In addition, former Development Administrator Nicola Allum will
also be part of the hockey administration team, while board member
Anne Wotherspoon and East District Competitions Convenor Maggie
Salmond have been invited to help the FIH and the Technical
Officials.
The volunteers selected for London 2012 will be able to experience
a trial run of operations when they help organise the VISA
International Invitational Hockey Tournament from 2-6 May. The
tournament will take place in the Olympic Park at the same time as
six other Olympic test events and will form part of LOCOG’s testing
of spectator flows in the Park.
Scottish Hockey congratulates all those selected as volunteers for
London 2012 and hope that they fully enjoy this once in a lifetime
opportunity.
