Hillhead stun Grove Menzieshill to sit top of the table

Hillhead sit top of the Aberdeen Asset Management Men’s National League Division 1 tonight after a sensational 3-2 win over Grove Menzieshill at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
Keith Joss’ side are two points clear of Glynhill Kelburne after chalking up their fifth win of the season.
In the first match of Scottish Hockey’s ‘Awesome October’ at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre, Dundee Wanderers held Clydesdale to a 2-2 draw in Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 1.
Jack Kinloch and Elliot Sandison gave the away side a 2-0 lead at half-time, but second half goals from Ciaran Crawford and Andrew Allan gave John McKnight’s side a crucial point as they retain their unbeaten status in the division.
Following the match, Dundee Wanderers’ goalkeeper Paul Johnstone said, “We made it quite hard for ourselves with a lack of discipline, particularly in the last twenty-five minutes, and when we only had eleven players. However, we’re bit disappointed to give up a two nil lead but in some ways we’re quite happy to take a point.”
The Taysiders opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the match when Jack Kinloch dispatched a penalty corner drag-flick past Clydesdale goalkeeper Andrew Scobie to make it 1-0.
Six minutes later, the Dundonians doubled their advantage after excellent wing play and cross from Chris Dailly found Elliot Sandison at the back post for an easy tap-in.
Clydesdale got themselves back into the match in the 48th minute when Ciaran Crawford rifled a drag-flick high into the top left hand corner of the net.
Following a concerted period of pressure and a number of penalty corner chances, Andrew Allan finally found an equalising goal after a neat set-piece to make it 2-2 in the 57th minute.
Despite attempts by Clydesdale to grab a winning goal, Wanderers held out for a point. As a result, Clydesdale drop to fourth while Wanderers move off the bottom of the table.
An exhilarating second game at ‘Awesome October’ saw AMM Gordonians almost became the comeback kings after being 5-0 down at half time to end a goal short of taking a point from champions Glynhill Kelburne, finishing 5-4.
The nine in a row champions dominated possession in the first half with their first three goals coming within the first five minutes of play. John Martin was first on the score sheet to make it 1-0, followed less than a minute later by captain Johnny Christie as he doubled the lead. Scott Sutherland made it 3-0 from a penalty corner.
In the 24th minute, Mark Ralph made it 4-0 from a penalty corner and the former Scotland international grabbed his second of the match right on half-time to make it 5-0 from a penalty corner drag-flick.
AMM Gordonians came back out in the second half full of confidence and soon put away their first goal of the game from a penalty corner by Oscar Stewart.
In the 47th minute, the Aberdonians got their second goal from Martin Babicky followed shortly afterwards by their third from John Hamilton.
The fourth goal came courtesy of a great partnership between Stewart and Craig Harper, with the latter getting on the scoresheet to leave the score at 5-4. However, Gordonians came up just short and the defending champions hung on to claim the three points and move into second place in the league.
Elsewhere, Western Wildcats move up to third after an excellent 4-0 away win against Inverleith. Harry Dunlop’s unbeaten side move up to third.
Finally, Grange climb to sixth after defeating Edinburgh University 4-3 at Peffermill. The students slip to bottom of the first division.
