Hillhead and Uddingston in play-off decider

A place in Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 1 is on the line this weekend as Hillhead and McWhinney Uddingston prepare to do battle in the Division 1/2 play-off at Peffermill on Sunday (13.30)
Hillhead will start as favourites being the Division 1 side but Uddingston are one of the form teams in Scotland having won ten out of eleven games in Division 2 since the resumption of the outdoor campaign in February.
Looking forward to the match, Hillhead Head Coach Keith Joss is in confident mood, “Although our last Division One game was around four weeks ago, we have been preparing for this play-off with training and practice matches in the lead up to Sunday.
“We’re confident that our experience of playing in the top division will count in our favour and we will play to our own game plan and strengths. We’re confident of a positive outcome against Uddingston.
“We’ll also have a good support through and should we win on Sunday, we have the basis to build towards next season with some potentially exciting developments on the horizon.”
While Uddingson captain Nairn Scobie was keen to pay respect towards their opponents on Sunday, he believes that his side has a chance of upsetting the odds, “Hillhead are a strong club with a good mixture of youth and experienced players who have been playing in Division One for a few years. They’ve also got a very experienced coach in Keith Joss”, said Scobie.
“However, we’ve played Hillhead once this year already in a friendly and won that match. I also watched them when it became clear they would be the playoff team. They have some fantastic players and are well organised but I’m confident we can cause them problems.
“I think it’s fair to say we are the underdogs mainly because we are a team coming from Division Two and Hillhead have played in Division one for many years. I’m confident we can get the result we want but we’re not under any illusions that it’ll take a big performance.
“Our form in the second half of the season has been second to none. We’ve gone unbeaten in the league, only drawing one game, taking 31 points from 33 available. The only game we lost was in the Scottish Cup to Western Wildcats who are a top Division One team.
The match gets underway at 13.30 at Peffermill, Edinburgh and with a good crowd expected, the occasion will hopefully live up to the billing.
