Hat-trick for Cram
PEREGRINES CUP
A hat-trick by Holly Cram was the catalyst in Milne
Craig Western`s 3-0 victory over Edinburgh University yesterday, a
result that ensures the Titwood side qualify for the final of the
Peregrines Cup against old rivals Grove Menzieshill in two weeks
time.
Western struggled to find any real rhythm in the first half
which finished goalless, but the arrival of former Scotland player
Helen Walker to the midfield brought a sense of purpose to the home
side. Within three minutes of the restart Jenny Hendry
created the opening up the right, her pass found Cram who unleashed
a fierce reverse stick shot past the goalkeeper.
Cram squeezed the ball home at the near post for the second
after latching on to a square pass from Fiona Bruce.
Cram`s third came from a fierce reverse stick shot that flashed
into the net after the goalkeeper had saved the initial shot.
In the other pool Grove struggled to make their presence felt at
Auchenhowie against a revitalised Western Wildcats outfit and only
took the crucial three points after a penalty corner strike by
Louise Carroll in the second half.
CALA Edinburgh moved into second spot in Pool B behind Western
with a 4-2 win over bottom side Inverleith, Emma Watson scored
twice and the other goals came from Phoebe Crosswaite and Amber
McNeill.
In the other pool A game Glynhill Kelburne beat Giffnock 3-2,
leaving the Paisley side third in the table.
YOUTH INTER-DISTRICT TOURNAMENT
It was an East/West split in the youth inter-district
tournament at Peffermill today, West took the under 18s title with
a 5-3 win over East, while the latter reversed the tables with a
4-1 victory over West in the under 16s event.
Archie Breckenridge gave West the lead in the under 18s final in
the opening minute and Gordon Amour doubled it five minutes later,
but East came back to level the scores at the interval, Angus Robb
and Aedan McCrossan were on target. But the second half
belonged to West, Amour got his second to put his side ahead and
further goals followed from Andrew Duff and Jack McAllister for a
comfortable win at the end.
West marched undefeated into the final with a slender 2-1 win
over bottom side North. Jack McAllister and John
McDonald were on target for West while Ally Dougal replied for
North. In the showdown game to decide the other
finalist, Midland went into a 2-0 half-time lead against East
through Callum Boag and Fergus Sandison. But the East
district retaliated after the interval and two goals each from
Danny Cain and John McCluskey set up a winning 4-3 scoreline, Boag
scored again for Midland.
Midland took third place with a 4-2 win over North.
East took the under 16s title following a 4-1 win over West to
win the trophy by a single point in a single pool
competition. Noel Anderson gave East a one goal lead
against West in the crucial game, Allan Johnstone equalised, but an
own goal gave East a 2-1 lead at the interval. The
second half belonged to Patrick Christie who notched two more goals
to seal the championship for East district.
Earlier in the day West continued their winning way with a seven
goal win over Highland, a hat-trick from Fraser Ward was the
catalyst with single contributions by Jack Jamieson, Rob Harwood,
Steven Frame and JohnJoe Lonergan. East kept up the
pressure by beating North 5-1 with a hat-trick by Patrick Christie
and singles from Joe Waterston and Noel Anderson.
