Grove Menzieshill relegated from Euro Trophy
Grove Menzieshill were relegated from the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy today following a 2-2 draw with HC Dinamo-Elektrosta in Switzerland.
Another two penalty corner goals from Louise Carroll, who had a prolific tournament in front of goal, wasn’t enough to prevent the Taysiders finishing second bottom in the relegation pool on goal difference behind their Russian opponents.
The Dundonians fell behind in the eighth minute following a penalty corner strike from Viktoriya Zelanova, but Carroll pulled her side level only sixty seconds later from a penalty corner.
With the sides level at 1-1 at half-time, Carroll again found the back of the net from a penalty corner to give Grove Menzieshill a 2-1 lead. With the Scots pushing for more goals, the Russians earned a penalty corner in the 30th minute from which Veronika Slozhneva found a vital equaliser.
Time ran out for Charlotte Jones’ side in their attempts to regain the lead and the contest ended with a 2-2 final score.
Dundee Wanderers, who qualified as Scotland’s indoor European representatives this season, will compete in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Challenge I next year.
