Grove Menzieshill finish third in Euro competition
Grove Menzieshill narrowly missed out on second place in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Trophy after losing 8-6 against Swiss outfit HC Rotweiss Wettingen.
The Dundonians need a sizeable win against the Swiss champions to finish runners-up in the competition after eventual winners SV Arminen defeated HAHK Mladost 10-5 earlier in the day.
The Taysiders were on level terms at 2-2 at half-time, following goals from Ross McPherson and Chris Wilson.
However, a quick-fire hat-trick from Nicolas Steffen and a Manuel Keller strike put Rotweiss Wettingen in commanding 6-2 lead.
Despite a fantastic comeback from Chris Anderson’s side, including a double from Josh Cairns, and further goals for McPherson and Wilson, to level the scores at 6-6, Christian Angst and Keller scored another two for the Austrian champions in the last five minutes to ensure it was they who secured second place and promotion to next season’s Champions Cup.
