Grove Menzieshill face European relegation fight
Grove Menzieshill will face a relegation battle in the EuroHockey Indoor Club Trophy following defeats at the hands of Cambrai HC and Rott-Weiss Wettingen in Switzerland today.
The Dundonians will definitely contest the relegation pool alongside HK Zrinjevac and the two bottom sides from Pool A after losing 5-1 to the French champions in their opening game of the tournament before succumbing to a 5-0 loss by the Swiss hosts in the final match of today’s session.
Charlotte Jones’ side found themselves on the back-foot inside four minutes when Camille Druart opening the scoring for Cambrai before Justine Blondel (16′) and Camille (19′), this time from a penalty corner, gave the French side a 3-0 half-time lead.
Louise Baxter gave her side some hope in the 25th minute when she pulled one back for Grove Menzieshill but two goals from Alix Perrocheau (27′, 37′) settled the contest at 5-1 come full-time.
In their second match, a tight first half saw Grove Menzieshill trail by a single goal at half-time, with Elena Trosh giving Rott-Weiss Wettingen a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
However, four goals in eleven second half minutes gave the home side a comfortable 5-0 win at full-time; Tamara Tosch doubled the lead in the 29th minute and Karin Bugmann notched a goal from a penalty corner in the 35th minute to make it 3-0, before two penalty corner strikes from captain Stefanie Walti (37′, 40′) rounded off the scoring at 5-0.
