Grange progress in the men’s Scottish Cup
Grange advanced into the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with a 5-3 win over Clydesdale at Titwood, the holders now meet second division St Andrews University next weekend.
It took 22 minutes for Grange to get their noses in front, in a scramble Alan Johnston was on hand to tap the ball into the net – and that was the score at the interval.
Further open play goals came in the second half from Josh McRae and Jacob Tweedie to give Grange a three goal lead.
There was a glimmer of hope for the home side when Euan Lindsay pulled one back after another scramble.
But two goals in as many minutes from Johnston again when he deflected a shot by John McCuskey into the net, quickly followed by a McRae reverse stick shot from the right hand side of the circle to advance the score to 5-1.
The holders were caught out in the closing five minutes and allowed David Nairn from the spot and a Chris McFadden penalty corner to reduce the deficit, but Grange has no further lapses to emerge 5-3 in front.
