Grange move into second spot

SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE

Grange took advantage of the postponement of the game
between top sides Glynhill Kelburne and Western Wildcats to move
into second spot in the Subway national league with a comfortable
4-0 win over bottom side VWS Dundee Wanderers.

Surprisingly, it was goalless at the interval, but just after
half-time Phil Sully opened for Grange after a square pass from
Martin Kelly.  Duncan Riddell doubled the score from close
range, then Kelly added a third with a first time shot following a
pass by Matt Connor.  The final strike came from a deflection
at the back post from schoolboy Hamish Imrie after two shots by
Colin McIver had been previously blocked.

Elsewhere, Greaves Clydesdale leapfrogged over Edinburgh
University with a 4-3 victory at Titwood.  It was a game of
two halves, two goals from Stuart Lang gave the students a 2-1 lead
at the interval, Johnny Roy scoring for the home side.
The second half was a turn-around, goals from Raymond Wrightson and
a double by Ciaran Crawford put Clydesdale 4-2 up, until Lang
scored a consolation overtime penalty corners for his own
hat-trick.

AMN Hillhead made up a bit of ground on the relegation front
with a 3-2 away win over CALA Edinburgh, the goals came from Ryan
Bell, Alan Meikle and Andy Maclaine.

There was a shock in the women`s league with the first defeat of
the season for leaders Grove Menzieshill, they went down at home to
third placed Milne Craig Western.  The Glasgow side were the
dominant force and went ahead when captain Catriona Ralph scored
from the spot after a foul on Holly Cram.  Western went two up
early in the second half when the unmarked Cram took advantage and
fired a powerful drive home from an acute angle.  Louise
Baxter pulled one back for the Taysiders in the last five minutes
from a penalty corner, and in a frantic last few minutes only a
brilliant double save by Western keeper Amy Gibson from Baxter kept
the points travelling back to Glasgow.

Second placed Giffnock confirmed their status with a convincing
5-1 win over Kelburne, strikes from Cath Stirling, Kareena Marshall
and Rhona Simpson put Giffnock three up at the interval.  In
the second half Marshall again and Lucy Lanigan added two more.

At the foot of the table GHK ended their losing streak with a
4-4 draw at Western Wildcats.
