Grange miss out on final in Vienna
Grange were looking for at least a draw against Welsh side Cardiff & Met to qualify for the final at the EuroHockey Club Trophy but lost 2-0 in a very close contest.
Now they will play Grasshopper Club Zurich from Switzerland for the bronze medal, and there are vital EuroHockey ranking points at stake in this game.
A draw looked on the cards at the end of the first half which ended goalless but three minutes into the second Jack Pritchard put Cardiff in front, and it was now a new ball game for Grange.
Salvation presented itself for Grange when they were awarded a penalty with only three minutes to play but unfortunately it was not converted.
Grange’s fate was finally sealed when Pritchard added a second for Cardiff with the last hit of the contest and the final disappeared from the equation.
Grange manager Martin Shepherdson said: “It was a tight game with not much between the two teams. I was pleased with our performance, but obviously disappointed to miss out on getting to top position in a very tough group.”
