Grange men and Watsonians women still in Premiership pole position

Grange retained their four point lead at the top of the men`s Premiership with a comfortable 5-1 at Hillhead – a little more convincing than the 1-1 draw a few weeks ago. Grange were three up at the interval through Dylan Bean, Ben Pearson and Jamie Green.  A glimmer of hope for Hillhead came early in the second half when Fraser Ward scored from the spot, but any revival was stifled by a double from David Nairn. Hillhead did have another spot effort, but this time Ward`s effort was saved by Grange keeper Bart Kuijpers.

The chasing pack could not be more neck and neck, Western Wildcats and Edinburgh University are both on 30 points and both on 37 goal difference…so level pegging here.

The Edinburgh students were 6-1 winners over Uddingston.  There were two goals each for Tom Cahalin and Keir Robb while Johnny Bradley and Sam Hunt got the others, Finn Halliday got Uddingston`s consolation.

Western Wildcats were equally convincing winners with a 5-1 score against Watsonians.  It was three at the interval through Fraser Moran at a penalty corner along with Rob Harwood and Jonny Christie.  Jack Mackenzie and Harwood again added two more in the second half.

FSEG Clydesdale galloped to the top of the lower split with a 5-2 win over Kelburne, perhaps revenge for the Scottish Cup defeat a week earlier.   Stuart Eadie and Sam Hayes put the home side two up before Charlie Feeney pulled one back for the Buddies just before the interval.  However, Clydesdale piled in more goals from Cammy Moran, Euan Lindsay and Ethan Robertson in the second half although Andrew Barnet provided Kelburne with a late consolation.

 

 

A feature of the last few weeks have been the revival at Dundee Wanderers, struggling at the foot of the table they have come to life and today they drew level with Clydesdale at the top of the lower group with a 3-1 win away at Inverleith. Wanderers scorers were Bobby Ralph, Sean Dowie and Kennedy Gibb while Charlie Jack replied for the Edinburgh side.

Grove Menzieshill eased their relegation concerns with a 2-1 win at ESM – the Taysiders move up to tenth while ESM move down to eleventh. Luke Cranney with a reverse stick shot put the Dundonians ahead at the interval. Paddy Crookshanks levelled at a penalty corner in the second half, but in the fourth quarter a cross from Findlay Duncan left Simon Huggon with a simple tap-in for the winner.

In the women`s Premiership Watsonians retained their perfect record with a comfortable 7-0 win at home to Inverleith. Millie Berndes-Cade was top scorer with a hat-trick while Emily Dark, Sarah Jamieson, Katherine Holdgate and Sarah McKay were also on target.

Second placed Edinburgh University kept in touch at the top with a 5-0 win at Hillhead, they are two points behind but with a game more played. The scoring was as follows – Ruth Blaikie, Zara Kennedy, Ava Smith, Amy Brodie and Jike Nyirenda.

 

THURSDAY EVENING

Millie Steiger`s hat-trick paved the way for Clydesdale Western`s 4-1 win at Uddingston in the women`s Premiership.   The result places Clydesdale on the same points as Wildcats but the latter take third spot on goal difference and they have also played less, while Uddingston remain in seventh and are now unable to catch GHK in the top six.

Clydesdale`s other scorer on the night was Anna Hoolaghan.   Uddingston had opened the scoring in eight minutes with a deflection from Tegan MacPherson.
