Grange in Europe

SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE (MEN)

Grange claimed second spot in the Subway national league
and a place in Europe next season in style with a well deserved 3-1
win over newly crowned champions Glynhill Kelburne at Bellahouston,
and in the process ruined the Paisley side`s 100%
record.

In only five minutes a solo run by Martin Johnstone carved open
the Kelburne defence and Cammie Fraser finished off the move to put
the Edinburgh side ahead.  Fraser almost made it two, but his
effort came back off the post.

Luck seemed to desert Grange`s Matt Connor just after the
interval, his first effort went clear off the top of the bar,
seconds later his shot remarkably cannoned off both posts with
Grange players vainly claiming the ball had crossed the
line.    Grange finally went two up with a penalty
corner drag flick from captain Rob Barr.   Kelburne
retaliated with a series of flowing attacks, but no joy until Alan
Forsyth forced the ball over the line after an intense scramble in
front of the Grange goal.

The champions pressed for the equaliser but the Edinburgh
defence, with keeper Colin Johnstone in fine form, stood firm under
the pressure.  Grange were still dangerous on the break,
Johnstone should have sewn the game up but contrived to scoop the
ball over the bar from a couple of yards out.  But with five
minutes left Fraser found himself in plenty of space in the circle,
he picked up a pass from Gary Cameron and fired the ball past Mark
Fulton.

CALA Edinburgh were finally consigned to the relegation play-off
spot when they went down 7-2 at home to Greaves Clydesdale.
Ciaran Crawford opened for the Glasgow side after only four
minutes, but David Patterson replied for CALA from the penalty
spot.  Just before the interval Crawford made it 2-1 for
Clydesdale, then proceeded to squander a penalty
chance.

CALA`s future in the top flight took a real dent when Gordon
Amour, his first goal for the club, Raymond Wrightson and Johnny
Roy scored three goals in a five minute spell.  Patterson
pulled another one back for the Edinburgh outfit, but two late
strikes from Fraser Hirst knocked the stuffing out of CALA.

Keith Joss, AMN Hillhead`s coach, will be a happy man, his
charges are now safe from all relegation concerns, two points ahead
of CALA who have now completed their league programme.

The Dundee derby ended in a 1-1 draw, after a goalless draw in
the first half, James Weyers opened for Wanderers at a penalty
corner, only for Craig Falconer to equalise for
Menzieshill.   The result means that Clydesdale leapfrog
Menzieshill into fifth place in the table.
