Grange and Edinburgh Hockey Club win at U16 Club Cup
U16 Club Cup took place at Peffermill on Sunday. A great spectator turnout cheered the teams along in all of the games.
Girls Competition
Inverleith and Grange set themselves up for a 5th– 6th playoff with wins from their first matches. The two teams played a close match with Grange snatching the win with the only goal of the game.
ESM and Dunfermline Carnegie played off for 7th and 8th after loses in their first matches. It was ESM that took the higher placing with a 1 nil win over Carnegie.
Watsonians and Perthshire graduated their first matches with wins over Western Wildcats and Clydesdale. They then then faced off for 9th place where Watsonians took the spoils at 2-0. Western wildcats couldn’t get on the score sheet in their match against Clydesdale leaving them 12th after a 0-1 defeat.
In the semi-final stage, Cala played last year’s winners GHK for a spot in the final. The Edinburgh team notched 2 goals to get the final spot. In the second semi-final, a close fought match between Granite City Wanderers and Fjordhus Reivers. It was Reivers that had the edge winning by 1 goal to nil setting up a Final CALA v Fjordhus Reivers.
The 3-4 placing match saw GHK come out on top from a penalty shootout. The match was a 1 all draw at full time. In the Final there was only 1 goal that separated the teams. An end to end affair but it was CALA that ended the match with a goal advantage to take the title.

Boys Competition
Western Wildcats stormed past local rivals Uddingston by 4 goals to nil to make the 9-10 play off. They were joined by Inverleith after a 1 nil win over ESM. Inverleith took 9th place with a 2 -1 win over Wildcats. ESM managed to take a win from Uddingston to finish 11th.
Grove Menzieshill, Highland and Clydesdale played a round robin for 5th-7th placing. Clydesdale took 5th with a win and a draw, Menzieshill 6th with 1 win, 1 loss and Highland 7th with a draw and a loss.
In the first semi final Perthshire and Dunfermline faced off. The match ended in a 1 all draw but Perthshire proved stronger in a penalty shoot out to progress to the final. The second semi final saw an East district battle between Watsonians and Grange. It was Grange that executed play best and ended the match with a 3 nil win.
The 3-4th play off Watsonians pulled into third place with a 1 nil win over Carnegie. In the Final a strong Grange side were exceptionally hard to beat. Grange were ahead early on and Perthshire managed a late goal but it wasn’t enough to pull back into the match. Grange running out 3-1 winners to take the title.
