Germany run out winners against Scotland in Largs
Scotland took on the might of Germany (world No.2) today
in what was another huge test for coach Russell Garcia’s men as
they continue preparations for the upcoming summer challenges and
the Germans proved to be too strong running out deserved 5-2
winners.
Scotland started brightly when HDM’s Kenny Bain
had a simple tap in following a Derek Salmond effort to give the
home side an early lead. Germany were stung into action and Thilo
Stralkowski levelled in the tenth minute.
What then followed was a long period of intense German pressure
which led to a further three goals from Tobias Matania, a second
for Stralkowski and Pilt Arnold before Inverleith’s Adam McKenzie
reduced the lead with a low drag flick just before the break.
Germany continued to enjoy the majority of possession in the
second half but Scotland stuck to the task with keeper Mark Fulton
producing several good saves. Florian Fuchs added a fifth for
the Germans but Scotland continued to battle and just before the
end East Grinstead’s Niall Stott forced a save out of the German
keeper with a reverse shot from a set piece.
Once again there were many aspects of this display which must
have pleased coach Russell Garcia as he continues to prepare for
the Champions Challenge in Lille and European Nations Trophy in the
Ukraine.
Scotland finish the invitational tournament tomorrow with a game
against the reigning European Champions England, who lost 3-1 to
Spain today, at midday.
