Four way split at the top
INDOOR NATIONAL LEAGUE –
WOMEN BELLS SPORTS CENTRE IN
PERTH
There is a four-way split at the top of the indoor first
division with Milne Craig Western, Dundee Wanderers, CALA Edinburgh
and Grove Menzieshill all recording back to back victories, the
Glasgow side just shade pole position by a single goal from
Wanderers.
The champions, perhaps a couple of players short, started the
day with a less than convincing 4-2 win over newcomers Western
Wildcats. Honours were even in the first half,
Ali Bell`s double was cancelled out by strikes from Rhona Stewart
and Rachael Ferguson. However, a double from
Linda Clement in the final eight minutes sealed the points for
Grove.
Again the Taysiders struggled against Granite City Wanderers in
the first half of their second match, a penalty corner strike by
Louise Carroll provided the only goal. Pressure was
again applied after the interval, Bell picked up a hat-trick and
others came from Louise Campbell, Bethan Mann and Clement for a
seven goal victory at the end.
City rivals Dundee Wanderers started off in a more positive
manner with an 11-1 win over the Aberdonians. There
were hat-tricks for Sam Sangster and Vikki Bunce, two each for
Heather Elder and Ashley Bunce with Rachael Osborne picking up the
other, Lara Mowforth scored the consolation for Granite City.
Sangster again was the set piece catalyst in Wanderers` 7-1 win
over Wildcats, she notched her second hat-trick of the
day. The other goals came from Bunce, teenager
Charlotte Watson, Jessica Ross and Jude McMullan, with Rhona
Stewart again on target for Wildcats.
Five goals from Western`s Susan McGilveray proved too much for
Inverleith in their first game in the top flight, they finally went
down 11-1. In the procession of goals Anna-Mae Morton
and Morag McLellan both scored twice while Nicola Skrastin and Jen
Eadie were also on target. Inverleith`s sole strike
came from Sarah Jamieson.
Western went on to defeat Glynhill Kelburne by 7-0, this time
Morton was the chief sharpshooter with four, two in each half,
Helen Walker notched two and this time McGilveray only scored
once.
CALA Edinburgh also started with a solid 4-0 win over Kelburne,
courtesy of a first half hat-trick from Amy Brodie. The only
goal after the interval came from Amber McNeill.
CALA`s defence have yet to concede a goal when they defeated
Inverleith 10-0 in their second outing. Brodie again scored
three times from set pieces, and there were two each for Amy-Jane
Russell and Lucy Lanigan.
