Female cougars claw sole victory at GBSL
GREAT BRITAIN SUPER LEAGUE
MEN
Graham Moodie`s youngsters suffered their second defeat
of the Great Britain Super League today, they went down 4-1 to
Welsh side Celtic Panthers.
The Scots had a great chance to take the lead in the opening ten
minutes with the scoresheet still blank, Exeter University`s Gareth
Davies rounded the goalkeeper but then contrived to miss the target
completely. The folly was duly punished as the Panthers
took a one goal lead into half time. Wales continued to press
and scored three more goals in the second half as the Cougars were
restricted to a couple of missed penalty corners.
However, with the last hit of the game Grove Menzieshill`s Craig
Falconer finally found the net with a low strike that went across
the keeper, but it was little more than a consolation.
“The performance against the Welsh was a great improvement on
yesterday, the squad is very young and just learning to play at
this level. There are several things still to sort out
before the Europeans this summer, particularly eradicating
defensive errors that cost us a few goals over the weekend,” said
Graham Stuart, Scotland under 21 manager.
WOMEN
Scotland`s under 21 women notched the only victory of the
weekend with a comfortable 3-0 over the Welsh Panthers in a
rain-affected match today. Play was suspended for
several minutes due to heavy rain, but it failed to distract
Glynhill Kelburne`s Stevie McInally who opened the scoring with a
direct shot following a cross from the right. The
second half also belonged to the Scots youngsters, and Grove
Menzieshill striker Louise Campbell added a second with a tap in at
the far post following a cross by Ali Howie. The third
came from the last of six penalty corners in the final minute by
Grove`s Hazel Hall from a rebound.
